When was the last time you took a risk, and what did you learn from it?
Every day. Living is our daily risk, but it is a wonderful one. If you don't take risks, you can't win. However, I think one of the biggest milestones in taking a risk has been becoming a mom. What a huge risk to take! I will never stop learning. The most important lesson so far has been: gratitude.
What does your typical working week look like?
Well, for starters, typical is definitely not a word I am used to hahaha. Every week comes with new tasks and activities. meetings with clients, working from home, posting on my blog, doing a lot of planning for future projects, etc. However a regular weekday would look something like waking up at 6:00 a.m., going to the gym, having breakfast with Jorge and my baby - Carmela - and pretty much, from there, run errands, work and try to squeeze in play time with her, or take her to music lessons depending on the day. We like to cuddle before Jorge gets home and she loves it. We usually try to have dinner together, Jorge takes care of Carmela at night, while I take my daily offical “me time”. Then, once Jorge has put her down to sleep, we chill, watch some Netflix and then we finally go to bed. On days like Friday, we dedicate it to my mom. Basically we pamper Grandma Carmela; and Saturday is my art day. Sundays are usually our sacred family day. And that pretty much sums it up.
What do you do to keep yourself motivated and interested in your work?
I love what I do. What I do makes me happy, it fulfills me, that is my true motivation.
What criteria do you use for evaluating success?
Happiness. Are you really and honestly happy? If the answer is yes, you are successful.
Which two industries outside you own do you know the most people at?
Oh my God! I multitask so much these days….that what’s even is my own industry? LMAO!!!!... but maybe I could say food is the one I know the most outside my own.
What are some small things that make your day better?
To kiss Jorge every morning and every night (the first and last thing I do every day of my life), having enough time to put on some delicious hair treatment while I shave my legs in the shower, beautiful nice makeup, getting in time (with bay Carmela) to appointments, to laugh like crazy, having a delicious cup of hot coffee or tea. Komorebi (the effect of sunlight streaming through the leaves of the trees), looking at Carmelo for no specific reason just looking at her makes life better, hugging and kissing my mom, people that genuinely smile, people that say thanks, putting a check in every single thing on my daily checklist (that’s a big one!), meditate while baby Carmela naps…. hear the “clink clink” of Jorge’s key when he opens the door at the end of the day, it means the universe is ok, we are all together at home again, I have everything I need with me.
What’s something you like to do the old- fashioned way?
I love good and nice traditions related to our family; Christmas, family brunches, birthdays….setting the table nicely and properly like the good old times. For the most important moments of our lives I love to take a very special portrait, I like to document our life, our family history.
What do you wish to accomplish with what you do?
To make the world a better place. If I can open up someone’s heart or mind… or both, and make a good impact in her or his life, my job’s done. As a designer and artist I want to create beauty, as a wife and mother I want to build love, and as women, feminist, and activist mom I want to remove stereotypes, I want our daughter and the world to know that as a women, she has a voice she is free, and can do everything she can dream of if she works hard to get it, that as a humans we all the same, that education is precious, that respect is basic and love is key.
